Carole Ozanian
Oral History Information
Carole Ozanian was surrounded by music throughout her life. She began taking piano lessons at the age of four and continued playing through her college years, where she studied to become a choir director. After graduating, Carole joined a Southern California music store and quickly discovered both a talent and passion for music retail—something she often attributed to her years as a Girl Scout selling cookies. Carole became deeply involved in the store’s marketing efforts, attended piano conventions, and built lasting relationships with music publishers who admired her enthusiasm for music education and her ability to connect with piano teachers. She later joined Alfred Publishing, where she became the company’s first female traveling sales representative, helping strengthen relationships with music retailers and educators throughout the region. In later years, Carole owned several music stores in California and served as a consultant to companies seeking to expand their export businesses. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to music education, and ability to foster meaningful relationships across the music products industry.
