Carl Perkins

Ace Cannon grew up in Mississippi singing with his father on street corners and in church, and he knew even as a small child that he wanted to have a life in music.  When he was ten his father drove him to Amro Music in Memphis and let him pick out an alto saxophone by CG Conn.  Right there in the store, he played "Beer Barrel Polka".

Quinton Claunch was a musical innovator who formed Hi Records in Memphis as well as the Goldwax label. He played guitar and bass professionally beginning in 1943 and can be heard on a number of recordings on the Sun label in the early to mid 1950s, including those by Carl Perkins and Wanda Jackson. When Quinton established Hi Records in 1957 he often played the role of producer, arranger, songwriter and bassist. Fred Douglas recalled picking up his first Fender Precision Bass when he was hired to record as a member of the Pacers. The Pacers were the band behind the “wild man of rock and roll” Sonny Burgess. The band recorded early Rockabilly songs for the Sun label out of Memphis, years before Elvis Presley started in the very same studio. Bill Lloyd is one half of the country duo Foster & Lloyd. Along with his partner Radney Foster, Bill wrote and recorded several hit songs including “Crazy Over You” and “Since I Found You.” The latter became a big hit for the Sweethearts of the Rodeo in 1986. Bill’s love of music can be traced back to his childhood when his father was a drummer and his mother played the piano. By the time Bill was a teenager he was already playing in bars three nights a week. His songwriting talents led to a gig as a staff writer for a number of publishers including Warner Chappell and EMI.
