Dr. Melissa Heche
Oral History Information
Dr. Melissa Heche grew up in New York inspired by the powerful voices of Broadway performers such as Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters, dreaming of one day following a similar path on the stage. As her love of music and performance developed, she began to notice that voice and hearing health were often overlooked in traditional training. This realization sparked a lifelong commitment to protecting the hearing and vocal health of musicians. Determined to better understand both the science and technology involved, Melissa studied audiology while also becoming a certified sound engineer, gaining hands-on experience with professional audio systems including in-ear monitors and live sound equipment. Today she is widely regarded as one of the music products industry’s leading audiologists, specializing in hearing conservation, tinnitus management, and auditory health for performers. Through lectures, advocacy work, and presentations at industry events such as NAMM, Dr. Heche continues to educate musicians about protecting their most valuable instrument—their hearing.
