Oral History Information
Gail O'Brien Stewart grew up in a family that greatly appreciated music and as a child she often attended live concerts. In elementary school she went to a young people’s concert where several instruments were demonstrated to her and her class. When asked which of the instruments she would like to play, Gail, not knowing the proper name for the French Horn requested the “swirly instrument.” And so her musical journey began. After college, she worked for a local music school for a few years before being hired at High Strung Violins & Guitars. She started out as the music lessons coordinator and school director before working her way up to co-owner. Gail participated in the Women of NAMM (WoN) leadership summit in October 2022. WoN is a council of NAMM dedicated to increasing female representation in the music industry by connecting, supporting and growing female leadership.
