Australian Musician Magazine

Greg Phillips is a strong supporter of music education and music making all throughout Australia, lending his skills and talents as a promoter, producer, writer and advocate. His passion was first sparked by the Beatles when he was five years old and later when he saw AC/DC perform at his high school. Greg wanted others to enjoy the benefits of attending live performances. At the age of 19 he was manager of the entertainment advertising pages at The Age newspaper and created a gig guide which allowed artists to advertise cheaply in Australia’s biggest newspaper. Magazine work followed and soon Greg met and teamed up with Rob Walker to launch Guitar Shows for the general public. Rob, who served on the staff of NAMM for years, was very active in the Australian Music Association (AMA). Greg followed Rob into the AMA, creating the organization's magazine Australian Musicians Magazine in 1995. All the while Greg promoted musical acts that performed in Australia by interviewing them, including the likes of Stevie Wonder and Brian Wilson. Greg also spent a great deal of time promoting music education and doing all he could to make music accessible to those of all ages. We have been blessed over the years to receive Greg’s support as a videographer and interviewer as he helped capture interviews for the NAMM Oral History project, the very program for which he sat down for his own interview in 2023!
