John McCubbery

John McCubbery’s lifelong passion for music began in Melbourne, Australia, where early piano studies led him to discover synthesizers as a teenager, sparking a career that would span performance, retail, distribution, and global leadership in the music products industry. After years performing original music throughout Australia’s vibrant live scene and gaining valuable studio experience, John transitioned into music retail, developing a deep understanding of musicians and the instrument business. He later joined one of Australia’s leading distributors, working with innovative brands including Ensoniq, E-mu, Sequential, Oberheim, and Alesis, which brought him to Los Angeles to help introduce the groundbreaking ADAT recording system worldwide. Returning to Australia, John strengthened his relationship with Korg before becoming Managing Director of Korg Europe and, in 2005, Vice President of International Sales and Marketing—the first non-Japanese executive to hold that role. Over seventeen years, he helped expand Korg’s global reach and align its worldwide distribution network. Since 2022, John has continued serving Korg as a Senior Adviser, drawing on decades of experience as a musician, retailer, distributor, and trusted international industry leader.
