Katy Jacobson

Katy Jacobson is a skilled band instrument repair technician, educator, and industry advocate dedicated to advancing the craft of instrument repair. Her musical journey began with piano before transitioning to trumpet in school, where she was inspired to pursue a career in music. While she initially planned to become a band director, her path shifted after attending the band instrument repair program at Minnesota State College–Red Wing, where she discovered her true calling. Katy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Northern Iowa and completed her repair training with honors in 2009. She gained valuable experience working in music retail repair shops, including Palen Music Center and Gadsden Music Company, where she advanced to Shop Manager. In 2022, she founded her own company, Katix Music, providing repair services and consulting to the music community. With a particular focus on flute repair, Katy has developed specialized expertise and is frequently invited to contribute to advanced repair projects and present clinics. An active member of NAPBIRT, she serves on the organization’s Board of Directors, continuing her commitment to supporting and educating fellow technicians.
