Liz Hartley
Oral History Information
Liz Hartley found her voice in music when she learned the saxophone in school. That early spark grew into an ardent dedication to music education, and she went on to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in the field. When West Music hired Liz in 2022, she saw that her background as a trained music educator gave her a unique way to help band directors. She understood their needs firsthand and could help them find the right instruments for their students. Her knowledge and care built strong bonds with local music educators, and those relationships have become one of the most rewarding parts of her work. Liz’s efforts have materially supported school music programs in her community, helping more students experience the joy of making music. In 2026 she took part in the Women of NAMM Leadership Summit, and in her NAMM Oral History interview she eloquently reflected on the path from student musician to trusted partner for music educators.
