Nick Dias
Oral History Information
Nick Dias teamed up with a friend to open Vintage & Rare, a vibrant music store on London’s legendary Denmark Street — a bustling hub of guitar shops that flourished in the 1980s. Always on the hunt for unique instruments, Nick began importing rare vintage guitars from Norman Harris in California, sparking not only a strong business partnership but also a lasting friendship. Eventually, Nick moved to California to work alongside Norm at Norman’s Rare Guitars in Tarzana, where his deep passion and infectious energy shine daily. Among his favorite memories from the UK are working with iconic bands like The Alarm and Orange Juice, as well as helping Robert Smith of The Cure, who famously requested each new guitar be spray-painted black before delivery. At Norm’s, Nick’s enthusiasm is evident as he dashes around the shop, sharing his expertise and building warm connections with both customers and his coworkers — all while keeping the spirit of rock ’n’ roll alive.
