Ray Zigler
Oral History Information
Ray Zigler has a simple but powerful motto that has guided his pioneering career in professional lighting: always say “yes.” He launched his career with the iconic Ice Capades in the 1980s and spent much of the 1990s supporting legendary artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Patti LaBelle, Eric Clapton’s MTV Unplugged, and comedian Andrew Dice Clay. While on tour, Ray identified a critical need for a mobile automated lighting solution—an innovation that revolutionized live event production. He collaborated with industry giants such as Clair Global and 4Wall Entertainment before moving to New Orleans, where he noticed a void in the local market for high-quality, automated lighting rentals. That insight led to the creation of RZI Lighting, a company now synonymous with excellence in jazz festivals, concerts, and sporting events. When opportunity knocks, Ray’s answer is almost always an enthusiastic “yes.”
