Oral History Information
Cato Zane is an accomplished audio engineer and the founder of Lost & Sound Foundry in San Diego, California. Her love for music and physics found a perfect intersection when she discovered audio engineering as a teenager. A multi-instrumentalist who played piano, percussion, and flute during her school years, Cato was always drawn to the creative and technical sides of music. She began her career by recording her friends’ band in high school, which led to a studio assistant role and eventually to gigs as a house sound engineer for musical theater productions. As her understanding of the physics of sound and audio equipment deepened, so did her passion for mentoring others. She takes pride in sharing her expertise with aspiring engineers, helping to foster the next generation of audio professionals. Cato also contributed to NAMM’s Oral History program, where she reflected on her journey and generously shared her knowledge of recording gear and sound production.
