NAMM members prepare to take the nation’s capital by storm making the case for comprehensive school music education programs. Leaders of the music product industry, celebrity artists and other industry influencers join together encouraging congressional leaders to support music education for all children. Music-products industry retailers take center stage as NAMM presents the Top 100 Dealer Awards July 18 at Summer NAMM in Nashville. Entries are now being accepted for the awards, which focus on retailer excellence in eight “Best Of’ categories. The 2014 “Dealer of the Year” will be chosen from among the Top 100. Dubbed the ‘retail Oscars’ by Music Inc. magazine, NAMM’s Top 100 Dealer Awards was created to spotlight the industry’s very best music product retailers and share their stores’ strategies for success.

Having received a standing ovation, Summer NAMM prepares for an encore performance at Nashville’s Music City Center, July 17-19, 2014. A new venue, more brands and high-caliber evening events renewed NAMM’s annual summer event in 2013. This year NAMM ups the ante with additional exhibit space to accommodate new and returning brands, more opportunities for professional development and not-to-be-missed evening events.

Make Music Day presents the industry with an ideal opportunity to create more music makers and reach new customers. Held on June 21st, Make Music Day is part of the international Fête de la Musique, taking place in 800 cities across 110 countries. The daylong musical free-for-all, celebrates music in all its forms encouraging people to band together and play. This year NAMM’s Mass Appeal makes it even easier for music stores and manufacturers to create community Make Music Day events.

Spotlighting the use of musical instruments and music-making products and technology in television commercials, NAMM awards United Airlines’ ad “Orchestra” created by McGarryBowen with the NAMM Excellence Award for Music in Advertising. The awards are presented in front of an audience of music product industry leaders on January 26, 2014 at the NAMM Show.

At its Annual Meeting of Members, held January 25 during the 2014 NAMM Show, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Board of Directors welcomes eight new industry pros. The NAMM Board of Directors guides and leads NAMM and NAMM Foundation and offers counsel to the music product industry.

The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) honored Motown artist Smokey Robinson with the “Music for Life” award. Robinson is recognized for his five decades of enduring influence in the world of popular music, and his long standing as one of the founders of the Motown dynasty.

Following a precipitous drop in sales between 2008 and 2009, high-end, custom, and boutique acoustic guitars are making an encouraging comeback. Headed into the 2014 NAMM Show, sales of high-end, luthier-crafted and custom acoustic instruments are at a five-year high. Guitar craftsmen and dealers point to a strengthening economy and growing pool of accomplished players for the increase in people searching for (and purchasing) their fretted Holy Grail.

The “mad scientist of electronic music,” known simply as BT, will host the NAMM Foundation’s 29th Annual TEC Awards (Technical Excellence & Creativity), Friday, Jan. 24, in Anaheim, Calif., during the NAMM Show, the music product industry’s premier event.

As the global music products industry prepares for the biggest NAMM Show in five years, the industry looks forward to the all-encompassing live music experience and networking opportunities that are completely unique to NAMM.
