Charles McPherson

Gunnar Biggs grew up in a deeply musical family, guided by his father, Dr. Millard Biggs, a professional French horn player and longtime professor at San Diego State University. Following in his father’s footsteps, Gunnar became both a performer and an educator, teaching double bass at SDSU for over 25 years and directing jazz ensembles at Palomar Community College, while also maintaining a thriving private studio.

Charles McPherson has thoroughly enjoyed his life as a music maker.  The jazz saxophonist was strongly influenced by the players of the big band era, such as Johnny Hodges who played in the Duke Ellington orchestra for many years.  Charles took what he heard and played his own style during the formative years of bebop and free jazz.  What he sought was a way to express himself that was not only his unique sound, but conveyed his unique thoughts and ideas within his music.  As a composer he craf

Rob Thorsen, a distinguished bass player and revered music educator based in San Diego, embarked on his musical odyssey at a young age, exploring a myriad of instruments thanks to his parents' encouragement. From the tuba to the classical guitar, Rob's musical journey was a symphony of exploration until he discovered his true calling with the electric bass at 17, procured from a humble garage sale. Fueled by an unbridled passion for music, Rob immersed himself in the vibrant San Diego music scene, honing his skills through mini gigs and forging lasting friendships along the way.
