The NAMM Foundation announced that it hosted a live, public teleconference today with U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to discuss his recent letter sent to school and education community leaders outlining the importance of the arts as a core academic subject in U.S. public schools.

The NAMM Foundation announced today that the deadline for submitting an application for a NAMM Foundation Music Products Industry Scholarship or President’s Innovation Award is Sept. 30, 2009. Up until that date, college students who are pursuing careers in the music products industry can submit their application at www.nammfoundation.org. Students may only apply for one program.

FORTUNE magazine announced today the eight bands that will be advancing to final competition of the “Ninth Annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands.” The first music competition of its kind, the FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands provides amateur, company-sponsored bands the opportunity to step out of the conference room and celebrate their passion for music. The eight qualifying bands will take the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 2-3, 2009, and have the opportunity to earn the title of best corporate band.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced that it will be hosting the winner of a recent Peter Gabriel remix competition at its Wanna Play? Interactive Music Pavilion located inside X Games 15 at the Home Depot Center starting today. NAMM’s guest of honor is Mike Gorman of Morgan City, La., who won for his “LizardMix” of “Games Without Frontiers,” featuring lyrical complements by Lord Jamar of the hip-hop group Brand Nubian. Gorman’s remix will be the theme song for this summer’s X Games.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced final registration and exhibitor numbers for 2009 Summer NAMM. At show close, NAMM reported a 26 percent decrease in registration from last year’s event, with 12,967 total registrants for the three-day event.

 NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced the election of its 2009–2011 Executive Committee. The election, which took place yesterday at a meeting of the NAMM Board of Directors, denotes a change in NAMM's volunteer leadership with Tom Schmitt, president and chairman of Schmitt Music Company, taking over for outgoing NAMM Chairman Chip Averwater, chairman of Amro Music Stores. NAMM, the not-for-profit trade association of the international music products industry, opened its 2009 Summer NAMM music products trade show today at the Nashville Convention Center, welcoming 145 new exhibitors to the annual event. The show runs today through Sunday. More than 11,000 music products industry professionals from 30+ countries are expected to attend 2009 Summer NAMM to view the latest musical instruments and products from more than 380 exhibiting companies. The show is expected to generate an estimated $10 million for the local economy.

Scholarships and President's Innovation Awards Support Future of Music Products Industry The NAMM Foundation announced today that its 2010 Request for Grant Proposals initiative will open on July 1, 2009, at www.nammfoundation.org. The Foundation seeks to fund proposals for projects that further the music products industry’s mission of creating more active music makers of all ages and expand access to music making.
