Where are the best communities for music education? The ninth annual “Best Communities for Music Education” (BCME) survey, sponsored by the NAMM Foundation( www.nammfoundation.org), is searching for school districts that support music education and include music education offerings as part of a complete education for all students.

An international family of Sesame Street characters rode onboard a float sponsored by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products association, at the 119th Tournament of Roses Parade, showcasing music as the ultimate expression of celebration for all cultures.

The Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals recently recognized NAMM with three MarCom awards for demonstrating creative achievement in its marketing and communications materials. NAMM proudly accepted the awards on behalf of the international music products industry and its Members. MarCom awards were given for the following pieces:  

Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple (Harlan County, USA, and American Dream) follows the story of a student theater company in Fort Worth, Texas, as they learn to express themselves and experience the positive effect music and the arts can have in their lives.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced its plans for a four-state NAMM Town Hall meeting tour in 2008 to meet with industry retailers, manufacturers and reps to discuss the changes and issues facing the industry today. NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond will take to the road April 29, with his first stop in the Los Angeles area. Additional meetings will be held in or near Washington, D.C., on May 16, Chicago on May 20, and Boston on May 21.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced its NAMM University schedule of events offered free to Members attending the NAMM Show, held Jan. 17–20, 2008, in Anaheim. The educational sessions are packed with great information and ideas that attendees can put to use in their businesses right away. Taught by industry experts who know the challenges and opportunities of today’s marketplace, NAMM University sessions cover a wide variety of topics, including:  

Seven company bands recently took to the stage to rock the suits and ties off their cube-mates and corporate competitors at the Seventh Annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands. Many have fantasized about stepping on stage; the energy of screaming fans, excitement of lights flashing and adrenaline pumping out of every pore. For a moment in time being the definition of cool—a genuine rock star. The seven finalists got to live that dream as they battled it out for the top spot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

The NAMM Foundation today announced its 2008 request for proposals initiative. The Foundation seeks to fund proposals for projects that further NAMM’s mission of creating more active music makers of all ages on behalf of its Members and expanding access to music making. The Foundation also seeks proposals for research that expands knowledge about the effects of music making across the lifespan. There are five initiatives that concentrate on reaching specific segments of potential music makers:

The NAMM Foundation and Disney Channel today launched “Disney’s High School Musical: The Music in You Grant Program” that will allow for middle and high schools across the United States to apply for a grant to put on their own school stage production of Disney’s High School Musical. This public affairs initiative utilizes the popularity of the High School Musical movies and the licensed amateur theater adaptation of it to encourage kids to get involved in music and the arts.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, announced today that in conjunction with back-to-school season, many organizations around the nation have joined the SupportMusic Coalition as a way to advocate on behalf of music education in their local schools.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, will host its NAMM University Sessions at Music China in Shanghai in October, providing a unique forum for education and information exchange for the music products industry in Asia.
