NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced final registration and exhibitor numbers for 2008 Summer NAMM. At show close, NAMM reported a 36 percent increase in registration from last year’s event in Austin, with 17,473 total registrants for the three-day event, including a 45 percent increase in international registrants.

NAMM International, the global branch of NAMM, the trade association for the music products industry, today announced it will donate $5,000 to help reopen the only school of music in Kabul, Afghanistan. The once-flourishing school was closed during the country’s civil war, but now has the full support of the Afghani government to re-open.

The NAMM Foundation is offering scholarships of $2,500 to $5,000 per year in support of full-time college students who demonstrate a specific interest in pursuing careers in the music products industry. The scholarship program was launched June 1, 2008, as a pilot initiative to encourage young people to develop the innovative business skills needed for the 21st-century manufacturing and retail areas of musical instruments and related products.

Members of NAMM, the not-for-profit trade association of the international music products industry, recently converged on Washington, D.C., for the organization’s annual Advocacy Fly-In event to take the music product industry’s pro-music-education message to their respective elected federal lawmakers in Congress. The group of 25 music products industry professionals separated into eight groups, logging an unprecedented 73 meetings with elected officials and staffers.

The Advertising Council joined Americans for the Arts and The NAMM Foundation today to announce the launch of a new series of public service announcements (PSAs) designed to promote the benefits of arts education. The PSAs, part of the award-winning “The Arts. Ask for More.” campaign, will debut at Advertising that Changed a Nation, an exhibit opening this week at the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, Mass.
