On Saturday, September 10, NAMM’s Museum of Making Music (MoMM) celebrated the debut of Spotlight on Casio, the latest addition to the museum’s many exhibits and musical instrument collections. Open now through January 29, 2017, the new display chronicles Casio’s 35 years of electronic music product innovations and features notable instruments including its first keyboard, the Casiotone CT-201; the AZ-1 classic “keytar”; the popular Privia digital piano (PX-560); a full 88-key Grand Hybrid action sample; and its newest digital piano, the CELVIANO Grand Hybrid.

The NAMM Oral History program celebrated a milestone this week: the release of the program’s 3,000th interview. Featuring 22-time Grammy winner and legendary jazz musician Chick Corea, the interview covered the people and musical instruments that helped to shape his career, as well as his continued passion for making music and in inspiring other musicians. In a short web clip published to NAMM.org, Corea reminisced about his introduction to the electronic keyboard, which came during his time playing with Miles Davis.

During last month’s Republican and Democratic National Conventions, arts leaders, luminaries, performers, policy makers and advocates joined together to discuss the importance of music and arts education, the current state of arts education, and how music and the arts have influenced their own lives as part of The NAMM Foundation’s podcast, “Talking Up Music Education.” The special Convention podcasts featured a range of contributors, including critically-acclaimed composer and singer, Ben Folds; legendary actor, singer and dancer, Ben Vereen; Turnaround Artist, PBS NewsHour and N

NAMM Musikmesse Russia, an international fair for musical instruments, sheet music, music production and music business connections, and Prolight + Sound NAMM Russia, an international fair of technologies and services for entertainment, integrated systems and creation will return to Moscow’s Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre, September 15-18, 2016.

Last Thursday in Indianapolis, a new statewide network of arts leaders and advocates met to help insure student access to music and arts education in Indiana.

The 2017 NAMM Show is calling musical acts of all genres to showcase their talents during the annual trade show, held January 19-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Called the Bands @ NAMM program, the platform offers artists the opportunity to submit their act to play one of 150 live performances on one of five stages during the annual event.  

College and university students preparing for a career in music are encouraged to apply for NAMM’s 2016 President’s Innovation Award. The annual award is given to students who express commitment and aptitude for business leadership in the music products industry and offers a $600 travel stipend to attend The 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, January 19-22, 2017.

At the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, NAMM joined arts leaders from Americans for the Arts, the Arts Action Fund, and top policy makers and advocates to discuss the importance of arts policy and education. Aptly named ARTSSpeak, the national nonpartisan policy forum discussed the transformative power of the arts to impact 21st century learning, the economy, and healing, especially for wounded military veterans and their families.

NAMM Members are now able to view the latest global trends and music products data in The 2016 NAMM Global Report. The annual report is created by the organization for its global membership and captures a snapshot of music industry sales figures from 24 countries, including unit sales information, analysis, and import/export numbers for musical instruments and products.

The 2016 Summer NAMM show returned last week to Music City Center in Nashville, offering a robust platform for buyers, exhibitors and professionals to engage with the latest products, learn new business strategies, connect with other industry peers, and to position their businesses for a successful second half of the year.

Make Music Day, the annual global celebration featuring more than 3,000 free, outdoor music making events in the United States, returns tomorrow – June 21.
